On2
is a different style of dancing from our usual On1 Salsa classes.
It’s also known as ‘Mambo On2’ or ‘New York
Style’. The turnpatterns are very similar to crossbody on1
salsa, but have a different feel and different emphasis due to
where dancers ‘break’ in the music. It can be a very
stylish and intricate way of dancing salsa, which you may have
seen at salsa congresses all over the world (most of the salsa
shows are danced On2). When dancing On2 you’ll still step
on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 7th beats in the salsa measure,
pausing on 4th and 8th. Dancers move forward and back in a line
or "slot", not side-to-side or in a circle or square.
"Break On 2", meaning that dancers change direction
on the 2nd beat, and also on the 6th beat. Sounds complicated?
Well, it’s not really, it’s all easy when you’re
taught!!!

So what is Mambo?
Good question!! Mambo is a style of music and dance that originated
in Cuba in the 1930's. Somewhat twenty years later, it travelled
to New York and "Mambo Mania" took hold of the city..
At present, Mambo or On2 as it is often known has remained popular
and is danced and enjoyed all over the world.
So how is it different?
The mambo step that many of us are familiar with remains the same
in structure however, you break on the 2. This gives Mambo its
distinctive feel and allows you to not only dance, but listen
to the music in a different way!
Can anybody do it?
Yes. Whatever your level, whatever your style, Mambo could be
for you. You can be an absolute beginner or a seasoned salsa dancer,
everybody is welcome.
Classes
All classes are fun, fast and exciting and both men and women
will receive clear and comprehensive teaching from Gary Thomas
and Jayne Turpin, who between them have 14 years experience of
dancing/teaching mambo...so your in good hands!
