There are many Improvers (level 2)
finding it difficult to move up to our Intermediates (level 3) so
we have an "in-between class" to take place @ Bar Risa
on Tuesdays. This enables people to do two classes on the trot,
with the new class at 8pm just before our usual Intermediates class
at 9pm. Or if you prefer to take it slowly, you could do the new
class at 8pm and the normal Improvers at 9pm. More choice to you

HELP KEEP
OUR FAVOURITE SALSA NIGHTS ALIVE!!!
It is really tough with venues at the moment, specially due to
the current economic situation. We must remember that like all
of us, venues are also under a lot of pressure at this time, having
to cut down on all costs and focus on the parts of their businesses
that will help them survive. On some occasions venues find it
even more cost affective to close their doors and shut for a night
completely if they don't believe they can cover their opening
costs. Over the years we have been very lucky in Birmingham and
have been able to get some brilliant venues to dance every week,
and have even enjoyed loads of nights with completely free admission,
but this is becoming unsustainable in the current climate, and
we're having to become more proactive to ensure the survival of
some of our favourite, and longest running WEEKLY nights, unless
we just want to end up having only monthly parties which can charge
a lot more on the door.
I've spoken
to loads of people and taken a lot of advice, and hope we have
come up with a solution that we think is fair to all. Please support
it as otherwise we WILL loose some of our favourite nights and
at best, we'll have to settle for less good venues, have to move
around all the time, or we could simply loose them forever. We've
had numerous meetings with Risa, who to be fair, have really supported
salsa in Birmingham lots over the last decade and enabled us to
run lots of weekly parties as well as special events, and in order
to finance & keep our much loved Tuesday night at Risa running,
we are going to have to introduce an admission charge which ALSO
INCLUDES A DRINK, or any salsa class as before. The drinks
voucher will be able to be used for a selection of bottled
Beers, Smirnoff Mojito, Smirnoff Ice, Jagerbomb, Vodka Red Bull,
Vodka mixer, J2O, or even a pint of soft drink like Pepsi, or
my own personal favourite, pint of Orange Juice & Lemonade
:). You can even use it for just some water if that's all
you prefer to drink.
We can only
do this and keep the night running here with your support, so
please understand that this voucher, and in turn, the admission
charge is not just paying for the drink itself (which I'm sure
we can all drink cheaper at home) but also paying to provide the
service/entertainment of the salsa night and all the associated
bar opening costs. As a fellow salsero told me (thanks Steve),
it pays for the drink it self; the glass it comes in; someone
to wash the glass for you before your purchase; someone to collect
the glass from you after you've finished; the venue and its décor/ambience;
the person on the door; SECURITY; toilets & washroom facilities;
someone to clean the venue; a dancefloor; effects lighting; a
sound system; heating; air conditioning; etc. It will pay for
electricity; Gas; Water Rates; Business Rates; Manager & Staff;
Lease/ Mortgage; Stock; and hopefully make a little profit at
the end which will have to have tax paid on it too. So, admission
will be £5 all night (still less than on the weekend parties)
BUT ALSO INCLUDES A DRINK OR any salsa class, or £8
if doing 2 classes as before. We've also confirmed that the bar
will be running drink promotions on as well, so your 2nd, 3rd,
4th...10th drinks can be cheaper too. I hope I'm not labouring
the point too much, but we really need your support in this to
ensure the longevity our much loveld weekly salsa nights.
